Class Assignments for the Week of Monday, March 31st- Friday, April 3, 2020

Please scroll down to find the class assignment you need; videos will be uploaded tomorrow to assist your learning of the class material.  Please submit your answers to my email kim.hooey@pembinahills.ca; if you prefer to use paper to complete your work, please take a screenshot of it (and email it as well).  All work is due by Friday.  Don't forget to check PowerSchool for missing assignments!

Remember, most online students are more successful when they set "schedules" for themselves.  Set realistic work times; for example, work for 30-60 minutes and take a 15 mins. break or lunch.  Consider coordinating "work" times with friends.  They can assist you (in addition to your teacher) if you get "stuck", and there is less temptation to "avoid" work if your friends are working too.  Let's face it- playing xbox with your friends will probably win out over completing your Social assignment. Thus, if your group agrees not to invite people to play until after 3:00pm, all of you are more likely to succeed!  Be supportive of each other and coordinate schedules!

LA 8/9
Prior to the Break, we were due for a test on the novel study, Flowers for Algernon (Progress Reports 1-10).  The novel is available in pdf on the web (same as we used before the Break- don't forget to use the audio function if you need it).  I will now use the developed test as an assignment to complete.  Please just record your answers when you email the assignment. (Place the title at the top of the assignment with your name and record ONLY your answers.  For example:  1. B, or just the answer to the fill-in-the-blank.  Complete the essay/short response as directed.  If writing by hand, you can screen shot it and email it that way.  Don't forget to include your NAME on the assignment.  Click on the assignment link at the bottom of this entry to view and complete the assignment.

The second item to complete by Friday is to read Progress Reports 14 and 15.  There is a link to click on below to complete the Questions for these reports as well.  Please email your answers for this assignment as well.

The third item for the week is a Language Power Review on types of sentences, subjects & predicates, clause types, sentence fragments, run-on sentences, and comma splices.  It can be found by clicking on the link below as well.  Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the document to get all of the assignments.

GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY 20
Most students should be finishing Assignment Module Booklet 2.  I will provide a link in case you do not have a booklet at home.  (Videos will be given tomorrow to assist with Module 2 in case you do not have the readings module booklet with you) The new Assignment Booklet for Module 3 will be given next week along with videos for explanations.  I will not be giving the lengthy readings booklets that we used in class.  Instead, rely on the videos I provide and Google for explanations of terms/concepts.  For this first week in a new learning environment, focus on establishing a schedule for your core classes.

Have a great day everyone!!👍

March 30th Welcome Message!

Good Morning and Welcome Back to School!!

Online learning will be our new reality, and it will be an interesting experience for students, teachers and parents alike!  However, we will learn together and cope the best we can.  Please be sure to reach out to me when you encounter difficulty, frustration, or just want to talk.

In that regard, your first task (for students in all classes) is to email me at kim.hooey@pembinahills.ca and let me know your preference for me contacting you in the upcoming weeks (email, text, phone call, videochat- specify FaceTime, Google Hangouts etc.).  I will be contacting students/parents by phone today and the next couple of days to outline a general format for my classes.  As I don't have student phone numbers, please forward me your numbers if you prefer to speak to me directly (as opposed to your parents relaying the information).  Please also include in this email if you would be interested in participating in a class session on video, such as Google Hangouts or Zoom.  Also, include how many times per week this would occur (we can play around with this number as we go), and if you want to try any "group" projects using technology such as GoogleDocs, or prefer individual assignments etc.  If you like the "video" idea with classmates, please also provide three times of day for preference; this could include an evening time as well.

I will begin all classes by providing an assignment to complete by the end of the week.  (This will be uploaded in a couple of hours) Tomorrow, I will provide each class with videos to accompany the material/assignment that will assist with your learning of the material.  Be sure to complete any missing assignments that were given before the Break.

I will be checking email/texts etc. throughout the day from 8:30- 3:30pm (Monday- Thursday, Fridays until 2pm.).  I will have breaks 10:00- 10:15 and 2:00- 2:15.  Tuesday evenings, from 6:30- 8:30pm, I will also host office hours for emails, texts, phone calls etc. (*I will periodically check my email etc. for the next while outside of office hours as well)

Remember, we can do this together!  All staff are willing to help, readjust workloads, and assist you in any way we can!
